Arctic snowmobile expedition “To the Stone People of Sundurun through the Suor Uyata Ridge”
Expedition to the Arctic part of Yakutia - to the Stone People of Sundurun.
The Stone People of Sundurun are stone outcrops reaching heights of up to 30 meters, composed of sandstones and quartz. The area where these outcrops are located is about one hundred square kilometers.
Route: Srednekolymsk - Andryushkino village – Suor Uyata ridge – Stone People of Sundurun – Suor Uyata ridge – Andryushkino - Srednekolymsk.
The first expedition along this route took place in April 2025. The Yakut name for these outcrops is Киhилээх (Kihi - human, Kihileekh - land of people).
The cliffs of the outcrops closely resemble human figures. The local Yukaghirs, on whose lands these outcrops are found, call them Куорат Таас – City of Rocks.
Situated on hilly elevations of the tundra, these outcrops, combined with the landscape, create a unique terrain that is not found anywhere else on our planet.
The route passes through a group of large tundra lakes, where intermediate stops will be established, providing fishermen with an excellent opportunity to catch trophy-sized Arctic char.
Japanese-made snowmobiles will be used for the expedition. Overnight stays will be in heated tents.
