The Stone People of Sundurun
An amazing landscape formation in the Yakutian tundra.
These rocks of the Sundurun tundra are known as the Stone People - the Stone People of Sundurun. They are still called that today. The Even name is Сундурун Иҥа Бэйэл. The Yakut name for these rocks is Кисиляхи Сундуруна.
The rocks are located on hills and mounds. The dominant height, marked at 576 m on the map, is known as Kisilyakh Tas.
These outcrops are situated in the subarctic tundra, 60 km fr om the Northeast Sea, in the upper reaches of the Sundurun River, between the Indigirka and Kolyma rivers.
The area wh ere the rocks are located is over one hundred square kilometers. The height of the rocks is 20-30 m.
